Skills Development Groups

Life gets complicated, especially in the teen years. If your child is finding it hard to manage big feelings, handle stress, navigate friendships, or make healthy choices, they’re not alone. Camp Get-A-Way’s new Skills Development Groups offer a safe, welcoming space where teens ages 13+ can build the tools they need to handle life with confidence.

Give your teen a supportive place to learn, connect, and grow

These small-group sessions teach practical skills that make a real difference, not just in the moment, but for years to come.
WHO ARE THESE GROUPS FOR?
These groups are designed for teens ages 13 and older who would benefit from extra support and practical tools for handling everyday challenges. Whether your teen is dealing with tough emotions, conflicts, school stress, or just wants to feel more confident, they’ll be met with kindness and understanding.

We also invite parents to join us for the last 10 minutes of each class for a quick update so you feel informed and supported, too.

WHAT WILL YOUR TEEN LEARN?
Over each 8-week session, teens learn practical, real-life skills they can apply right away, including:

• Identifying and communicating feelings
• Managing difficult emotions and situations
• Understanding and channeling anger
• Resolving conflicts in healthy ways
• Building healthy relationships
• Making thoughtful decisions & taking healthy risks

Each group includes opportunities to grow in social skills, independent living skills, and character development. Everything is taught in a supportive, low-pressure environment where teens can participate at their own pace and feel heard.
Each class is taught over the course of 8 weeks, with weekly sessions taking place in the Camp Get-A-Way Office (above Vertical Cafe) on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 PM.

Skills development groups FAQ's

Can I attend the full session with my teen?

These groups are designed for teens to participate independently. Parents are invited to join the last 10 minutes of each class for quick updates and a few take-home tips.

How many teens are in each group?

We like to keep our groups on the smaller side so everyone feels comfortable and included.

What if my child is younger than thirteen?

Right now, these groups are created specifically for ages 13 and up. If your child is close to 13 and you’re unsure, reach out—we’re happy to talk it through.

Can my child sign up for for than one group?

Absolutely. Teens can join as many different 8-week groups as they’d like. Many families choose more than one because these skills build on each other.

Do you offer virtual options?

Not at this time. All groups meet in person at our Warsaw office to give teens the chance to learn and practice these skills face-to-face.

Who leads the groups?

The groups are led by trained Camp Get-A-Way staff who are patient, encouraging, and experienced in helping teens grow. They’re great at meeting kids where they are and helping them feel understood.
