Registration is limited to 15 participants
Title: TCI for Families
Presenter: Ken Tangel
TCI for Families is an educational group to teach parents and caregivers of youth with emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges skills to effectively manage crisis.
The material comes from the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Curriculum for Families from Cornell University and is presented by a TCI Certified Trainer.
The group will occur over 8 sessions lasting 2 hours each.
Participants will learn how to promote safety during a crisis and teach the youth more effective ways to cope with stress in the future. At the conclusion of group, participants will understand and be able to apply the following: the dynamics of a crisis situation, how to assess a crisis situation, choosing the appropriate de-escalation tools for specific situations, and how to process a crisis situation once it has de-escalated.
The concepts and skills will be presented and modeled initially by the instructor and then emphasis will be placed on practicing the skills through activities and role-plays that facilitate understanding and proficiency. Time will also be provided throughout the group for discussing specific crisis situations in the context of the material being presented, while respecting the confidentiality of each participant.
